PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM:

Park Ridge State School offers a well-developed and highly supported Performing Arts Program. The program includes instrumental, choral and strings ensembles.

INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM:

Park Ridge State School currently has lessons in a variety of instruments. Strings lessons are offered to students in Years 3 to 6. Our Classroom Music Teacher will test suitability for this program in Year 2. Brass, woodwind and percussion are also offered to students in Years 4 to 6. In Year 3, the students will be tested by our Classroom Music Teacher for suitability.

The school has a limited number of instruments for loan when commencing these programs. Most students will be expected to purchase their own instrument once the second year of tuition commences.

Park Ridge State School has a Senior Band, Junior Band, Senior Strings Orchestra and Junior Orchestra. Their rehearsal is in addition to their scheduled lesson. All groups have the opportunity to compete in competitions, workshops and perform at school functions.

The Junior Ensembles wear the school uniform, the Senior Ensembles are required to wear the designated school music shirt (available from the uniform shop), along with full length black trousers, black socks and hair neatly tied back.

CHOIR:

Park Ridge State School has two main choirs; the Junior Choir (Years 2 to 3) and Senior Choir (Years 4 to 6). From these choirs, some small ensemble groups can be formed for selected repertoire. Students involved in choir are expected to make a commitment to attend a lunchtime rehearsal once a week. Participating in choir gives students the opportunity to sing a variety of songs in safe, encouraging environment where they can cultivate their love of singing and musical skills. The choir performs at most school functions and events.

CLASSROOM MUSIC PROGRAM:

Each class has a weekly music lesson with our specialist Music Teacher. Classroom music involves singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, improvising and composing. At Park Ridge State School, students in all year levels  have the opportunity to experience learning music through a wide variety of instruments  such as percussion (including Boomwhackers), ukuleles, xylophones, recorders (from Year 3) and guitars and keyboards (from Year 5).

PERFORMANCES:

Park Ridge provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their performing arts skills through Choral and Instrumental music performances on parade and special events.
