Homework

​​​Homework continues to be an ongoing debate for schools and families.

Hattie's research states that homework in Primary Schools has little to zero effect but this lifts to about 0.58 effect size in High School.  He is often misquoted or misrepresented is his research.  What he was attempting to say was that homework in its current form has little to zero effect.  We also know from a personal point of view that homework has a number negative points:

  • Work load - preparation, marking, chasing kids;
  • Impact on families and the stress it can cause;
  • Time it takes away from learning in class.​

At Park Ridge State School we have implemented a homework grid/learning grid that combines the need for some families to set homework expectations and balancing workload and pressures of schools and families.  Example below:
